ALMOST half of all children have been bullied with most of the abuse happening at school, a study revealed yesterday.
Out of the 49 per cent of children surveyed who had been bullied, a quarter said it was because of the way they looked. One in eight said it was due to their weight.
The figures were revealed in a OnePoll survey.
With most of the abuse taking place in school, the top three locations were in the playground, during break times and in the classroom.
The survey of 1,500 children was commissioned to launch ITV’s Good Morning Britain “Action! Against Bullying” campaign.
Three-fifths of the school pupils said they had witnessed other people being bullied and 80 per cent of victims said they were humiliated and criticised in front of other children.
A majority (70 per cent) knew their schools had an anti-bullying policy, but only a quarter thought it was working or had any faith in it.
Two in 10 young people said that they didn’t think telling an adult or friend about the bullying they experienced would improve anything.
