McDonnell hails growing resistance

LEFT Labour MP John McDonnell heralded an “alternative of resistance” growing in Britain yesterday.

Addressing RMT delegates, the union’s parliamentary group convener hit out at the “elected dictatorship” of the Tory government as it launched its next phase of destruction of public services.

In a hard-hitting speech he called for support for left Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership, and proposed a radical alternative manifesto for a Corbyn-led Labour Party: scrapping Trident, a house-building programme, abolishing anti-union laws and a genuine living wage.

He urged union members to vote in the leadership election under Labour’s “supporter” membership scheme.

“People are saying there is no alternative but to resist. The RMT is one of the best examples of resistance.”
