Alan Frank reviews 'Insidious: Chapter 3'

Insidious: Chapter 3 (15) Directed by Leigh Whannell 2/3

ANOTHER week, another horror film. So, what else is new?

Not a lot, if this is anything to go by.

This shocker sequel is actually a prequel, in which the supernatural goings-on take place years before the hideous hauntings of the previous two films.

The totally unsurprising barrage of shrieks, things-that-go-bump-in-the- night, hideous phantoms and terrifying events are triggered off by the visit of teenager Quinn Brenner (Stefanie Scott) to psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye).

Brenner believes her dead mother is trying to contact her but veteran ghost hunter Rainier is reluctant to help.

But when the former, having been crippled in an accident, is attacked by a vile entity, Rainier sets out to kick undead ass…

Horrorflick addicts will feel right at home with the ensuing grisly genre fare.

The actors deserve credit for keeping straight faces, although basically they’re simply there to punctuate the “make-you-jump” sequences that are the film’s raison d’etre.
