Hundreds respond to call to protect benefits

A PETITION against benefit cuts for disabled people has garnered hundreds of signatures in just 24 hours.

Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) logged its petition on Change.org on Thursday, mustering 100 signatures.
A day later the figure had topped 1,450.

The petition reads: “The abolition of the disability living allowance, the proposed closure of the independent living fund, the work capability assessment, sanctions and savage cuts to local authority budgets have removed our basic human rights.

“It’s time all political parties came clean on further cuts to disabled people’s support instead of false promises and lies.”

Adrian Pearson from Mansfield, who signed the petition, wrote: “I’m scared of my future. Not only do I have to fight my illness and health I have to fight the government.”

DPAC campaigns against cuts, claiming they can destroy lives in the disabled community.
