Controversy as Dame Zaha Hadid cuts short interview

CONTROVERSY: Architect Dame Zaha Hadid cuts short a Radio 4 interview yesterday that was supposed to be celebrating her becoming the first woman to win the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture.

Her most notable works in Britain include Cardiff Bay and the Olympic Aquatics Centre.

Today programme presenter Sarah Montague started asking Ms Hadid about sexism in the industry and her reputation as “scary” but the interview quickly soured when deaths in construction for the Qatar World Cup were raised.

And when Ms Montague raised the abandoned Tokyo national stadium — reportedly because of soaring costs — Ms Hadid stopped the interview.
