Lorenzo comes through the rain to win in Aragon

Spaniard claims first MotoGP victory of the season

JORGE LORENZO capitalised on championship leader Marc Marquez’s crash yesterday to claim his first MotoGP victory of the season at a rain-hit Aragon Grand Prix.

Lorenzo’s decision to switch to dry tyres as rain eased proved pivotal, with Marquez and fellow title contender Dani Pedrosa both falling after spurning a change.

Aleix Espargaro finished second with Britain’s Cal Crutchlow third, while Yamaha's Lorenzo secured his first victory since 2013’s final race.

Spaniard Marquez finished 13th, one place ahead of rival and compatriot Pedrosa — leaving him still able to extend his overall championship lead by a point.
