SENSITIVE information on three judge-led inquiries — including the fatal police shootings of Mark Duggan and Azelle Rodney — has been lost by the Ministry of Justice.
The department confirmed yesterday that officials lost two computer discs relating to the inquiries in early January.
Along with Mr Duggan and Mr Rodney, information relating to Robert Hamill, an Irish Catholic beaten to death by a loyalist mob in Northern Ireland, was also lost.
In a statement issued through the charity Inquest today, Mr Rodney’s mother Susan Alexander said: “This is shocking news and very disappointing.
“My lawyers are in contact with the Ministry of Justice on my behalf to establish exactly what data from the case (and particularly that relates personally to me) is on the discs that have gone missing.”
The ministry said that police had taken “necessary steps” to ensure the protection of any officers whose information could be disclosed.
An investigation has been launched by the government into the security breach of its guidelines and disciplinary action will be taken if appropriate.
