Athletics: Ennis-Hill to compete in trio of events

by Our Sports Desk

JESSICA ENNIS-HILL will compete in three events at the Anniversary Games in what is set to prove the acid test of her readiness for next month’s World Championships in Beijing.

The Olympic heptathlon champion will return to the stadium where she won London 2012 gold, racing in the 100 metres hurdles on Friday July 24 and then contesting the long jump and 200m the following day.

It will be the 29-year-old’s first Diamond League event for two years following her return after the birth of her son Reggie, and how she fares will be a decisive factor in whether she opts to go to the World Championships.

She said: “To be back competing at this level is a daunting test as it’s only my fourth competition of the year. The events will be tough with great international and domestic fields, but I need to find out if I will be ready for Beijing and then ultimately Rio (for the 2016 Olympics).

“I am really looking forward to competing in the Olympic Stadium again and I hope the British fans will turn out to support me and the other athletes on what I’m sure will be another incredible night of athletics.”
