EXACT distances to the nearest yard will be used to measure and advertise jumps races in Britain from June 1, in a move which will see the Grand National at Aintree effectively run over a furlong shorter.
All of the National Hunt tracks were surveyed and remeasured with a new method that reflects the system used for flat courses and is meant to be more accurate.
Race distances will still be advertised using the traditional description, but now they will feature alongside a precise “baseline” distance.
