PCS hails ‘solid’ National Scots Museum strike

CIVIL Service union PCS has hailed “solid” strike action which closed the National Museum of Scotland on Boxing Day as part of a long-running weekend working allowances dispute.

And the union warned “intransigent” management yesterday that workers are set to escalate strike action in the new year.

PCS Scotland parliamentary officer Joy Dunn told the Morning Star: “Boxing Day was the first anniversary of this dispute and our members’ resolve is as strong now as it was on the first day.

“We’re asking management to come back and put something on the table which we can talk about. If not, the action will be escalated in the new year.”

Half of the museum’s 120 visitor service workers, who started work from 2011 onwards, have had a weekend working allowance of up to £3,000 per year withdrawn.

Their annual salary is just £14,000.
