South Africa: Calls to sack MP who called for a return to apartheid

SOUTH AFRICA’S liberation movement has called for the sacking of an opposition MP who “inadvertently” called for a return to apartheid.

Democratic Alliance (DA) shadow police minister Dianne Kohler-Barnard drew fire after she reposted a comment on her Facebook page from another user about the suspension of a prominent police detective.

“Please come back PW Botha — you were far more honest than any of these ANC rogues,” the post read.

“You provided far better services to the public — we had functioning education system, functioning health system…”
Ms Kohler-Barnard apologised for the post on Thursday, claiming she had not realised it expressed nostalgia for apartheid.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) joined its ally the African National Congress yesterday in calling for the hapless MP to be removed from parliament.

“She does not deserve to be an MP in a democratic South Africa,” said SACP national spokesman Alex Mashilo.
