Post Office staff set to strike against job cuts and for fair pay

Key staff who deliver and collect money for 11,500 Post Offices are to strike over jobs and pay.

Post Office Ltd plans to shed 28 per cent of its administrative and supply chain staff.

The staff are members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU).

The union is resisting redundancies and is calling for a fair pay rise.

The Post Office made a record profit of £107 million this year.

Talks through conciliation service Acas have failed to resolve the dispute.

A 24-hour strike is planned for December 12, though further talks take place today.

CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said: “Hard-working Post Office employees deserve fair pay and job protection and this is what we are continuing to fight for.

The Post Office is proposing 28 per cent of job losses from the admin and supply chain staff and this is simply unacceptable.”
