Queen's Speech: Labour - Expect our opposition to be vocal

LABOUR will deliver “determined, forensic and vocal” opposition to the Tories, acting leader Harriet Harman pledged yesterday.

Ms Harman said Labour would do all it can to derail plans to repeal the Human Rights Act, reminding “smug” Chief Whip Mark Harper that the Tories have a “slim majority” of 12.

Ms Harman also hinted Labour would oppose Tory strike ban plans, saying the party would not support “more arbitrary measures to undermine people’s rights at work.”

Labour’s acting leader started the debate on the Queen’s Speech by giving some “friendly advice about the thorny issue of seating arrangements.”

Dennis Skinner had earlier reclaimed his seat from SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson.

Ms Harman said: “The lion might be roaring in Scotland, but don’t mess with the Beast of Bolsover.”
