Scottish Corbyn supporters rally forces for leader

JEREMY CORBYN supporters in Scotland will launch a campaign this weekend to mobilise the huge support the Labour leader retains among lay members.

Neil Findlay MSP, who will run the Scottish Labour for Jeremy campaign said: “Jeremy won last year because he put forward a new vision for Labour and for society, a clear alternative to a broken political system, real change not just managerialism.

“The proposals Jeremy has put forward in the last year — successfully defending tax credits and disabled benefits, rejecting austerity and war — have seen our party grow to record levels of membership.”

Referring to attempts by Blairites to subvert grassroots democracy, Mr Findlay said it was vital to “ensure that every party member gets the vote that they were promised. It’s wrong in principle, and will backfire in practice, to try to escape political difficulties through bureaucratic proscriptions.”

Sunday’s meeting will hear from a variety of grassroots Labour figures but will be focused on starting to organise the campaign on the ground.

The launch will be held at 2pm at the STUC, 333 Woodlands Road Glasgow, G3 6NG.
