SNP’s trade union group to gather for first annual meet

THE SNP trade union group’s first conference will meet on Saturday at Stirling University.

The event — which clashes with a major anti-austerity demonstration in Glasgow — has been set up after membership ballooned from 800 to 16,000 in the last year.

TUG executive member Chris McCusker said: “The issues of employment, the welfare state and the future of the trade union movement will be central to how we go forward as an organisation.

“As a group we are dedicated to the fight to help end poverty, campaign for social justice and improve working conditions for Scotland’s workers.

“It is important that the thousands of trade union members who are members of the group see that they are not alone in their unions and that they were able to organise for the first time.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will deliver the keynote speech.
