Hockey: Argentina captain Luca Rey banned for next match after using extra player in win over England

Argentina captain Luca Rey has been suspended for their next match after the Lions played with an extra player during the 2-0 victory over England on Sunday.

During the two minutes Argentina played with an extra man, England successfully defender a corner.

But when the 12th player left the field without notifying the technical table, Rey should have been sent to the sidelines for five minutes according to rules.

In those five minutes, Argentina scored twice to win the game.

England have since accepted the ruling placed by the International Hockey Federation.

England chairman Philip Kimberley said: “We feel it is important that the facts are in the public domain and to ensure that the management of games is tightened up to avoid a repetition of this situation.”
