Prosecutors were issued with new guidelines on how to handle domestic abuse cases yesterday as authorities say they anticipate a surge in reported incidents.
Nearly 71,000 domestic abuse prosecutions across Britain were recorded in 2012-13, the CPS said, and this financial year that figure is expected to swell to almost 90,000.
The new guidelines brief prosecutors on the ways perpetrators can control, coerce and psychologically abuse victims, and warn that domestic abuse occurs in all communities.
The guidance has been broadened to touch on technology-aided abuse such as “revenge porn,” where ex-partners share illicit images online.
It also includes advice on how domestic abuse can occur within gangs, and a section on immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers.
