Welsh boxer Ashley Brace banned from Glasgow Commonwealth Games over kickboxing background

Welsh boxer Ashley Brace has been barred from competing at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games due to her kickboxing background.

The Ebbw Vale athlete had been hoping to compete against Nicola Adams in the 51kg category as women’s boxing prepares to make its debut at the Games.

But the sport’s world governing body AIBA has deemed Brace ineligible to compete because she took part in the 2013 World Kickboxing Championships.

Team Wales Chef de Mission Brian Davies said: “It is with great disappointment that we can confirm boxer Ashley Brace will no longer compete for Team Wales at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“Ashley is a fantastic young athlete with bags of potential and we are saddened that she now won’t have the opportunity to compete at the Games.”
