TRADE union campaigners protested at a Yorkshire depot of retailer Next yesterday over the firm’s decision to advertise in Poland for temporary seasonal jobs before offering work to jobless people in Britain.

The protest at South Emsall in West Yorkshire was part of a national tour by general union GMB targeting Next centres across the country.

It is being supported by performers Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott who are on a parallel nationwide tour.

The performers and GMB are also calling on Next to introduce the living wage of £7.85 per hour outside London and £9.20 per hour in the capital.

GMB general secretary Paul Kenny said: “We have to face up to the brutal fact that whatever the European vision was on integration, harmony, economic advancement and political stability, what we currently have isn’t it.”

The tour has so far visited Aberdeen, Newcastle, Bradford, Blackburn, Nottingham, Cardiff, Wolverhampton, Glasgow, Warrington, Leicester and Sheffield.
