People’s Assembly targets No10 for Queen’s speech

ACTIVISTS will descend on Downing Street in a mass protest on the eve of the Queen’s speech, it was announced yesterday.

People’s Assembly Against Austerity is calling on activists to assemble at Downing Street on Wednesday May 27 for 5.30pm before marching to a rally at the nearby Emmanuel Centre in Westminster for 7pm.

“We’ve just heard that a Counter-Terrorism Bill will be included in the Queen’s speech,” People’s Assembly national secretary Sam Fairbairn told the Star.

“This divisive piece of proposed legislation will only serve to fuel Islamophobia in communities across the country and cripple freedom of speech.

“You can expect that this will be the thin end of the wedge over the next five years of Tory rule. Next they will start legislating against the spread of left-wing activism and viewpoints like some 21st-century thought police.”

The Counter-Terrorism Bill will give police powers to apply for High Court orders to limit “harmful activities,” designed to limit the spread of extremism.

It comes before the national End Austerity Now demonstration on Saturday June 20 at the Bank of England.
