PM’s grace-and-favour pad comes at B&B prices

CABINET OFFICE officials raised eyebrows yesterday when they claimed that the cost of entertaining a string of VIP visitors at posh Prime Minister’s pad Chequers was just £64 a head.

The unlikely response to a freedom of information request followed revelations of the string of guests at the Buckinghamshire pad that included the Queen and Prince Philip and supermodel Claudia Schiffer.

Pressed to itemise the costs for of the three months’ worth of visits, they refused, but did put the total bill for all 29 guests at £1,863.

It was not clear whether that sum included the staff costs or if that was covered by the £674,000 annual grant that the Treasury pays for upkeep of the grace-and-favour pad.
