A MANCHESTER rabbi has fallen victim to a spate of hate crimes after publicly voicing opposition to Israel’s attack on Gaza.
An Islamic human rights group has demanded that Manchester police protect him.
Since Rabbi Ahron Cohen spoke at a July demonstration in Rochdale opposing Israel’s military assault on Gaza, the windows of his home have been smashed, eggs have been thrown at his house and, in the most violent incident to date, arsonists set fire to his car and the petrol tank exploded.
Supporters say police initially failed to respond to emergency calls, only arriving the day after the arson attack.
Mr Cohen is a supporter of Neturei Karta, a group of Orthodox Jews who oppose Zionism.
Manchester’s Islamic Human Rights Commission called on police to protect Rabbi Cohen and investigate the attacks.
Chairman Massoud Shadjareh accused police of failing in their duties.
