PM backs IMF on debt relief

DAVID CAMERON became the latest surprise critic of the harsh conditions imposed on Greece by its Eurozone creditors yesterday.

Backing up the IMF’s call earlier this week for a write-off of some Greek debt, the Tory Prime Minister told Parliament that debt relief “must be right.”

During Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs), Mr Cameron told the House: “We talk to the IMF on a very regular basis.

“The point they are making that there must be debt relief for Greece must be right.”

A deal between the Syriza government and European leaders was struck earlier this week, but the Greek parliament had not approved it as the Star went to press.

A demonstration was held outside the German embassy in London last night in solidarity with the Greek people.
