Dave King thanked Rangers fans yesterday for backing his bid to take over at Ibrox.
The club set a new date yesterday morning for the decisive general meeting which could oust its current board.
It will take place at Ibrox on March 6. The board had previously scheduled the meeting to take place 400 miles away in London, but two hotels in turn backed out for fear of protests.
King needs to win a majority vote if he is to sweep David Somers, James Easdale, Derek Llambias and Barry Leach out of the Blueroom before replacing them with Paul Murray, John Gilligan and himself.
But he has already won over the support of the Rangers Supporters Trust and Rangers First, two fan-ownership groups seeking regime change.
The trust revealed it had been given control of an extra 1.36 million shares from minor shareholders, in addition to its own 1.3m. In total it commands a 3.25 per cent stake.
Its members have already overwhelmingly backed King’s takeover bid.
Rangers First, backed by over 11,000 members, plans to do the same with its 1.7 per cent stake.
