Litigant in Ascot could be a winner

Our tipster casts his expert eye over the pick of the weekend’s meets

All eyes will rightly be on Ascot this afternoon with no fewer than four group one events on Champions’ Day. But the best bet of the afternoon could be a shocker in the form of Naadirr in the Qipco British Champions Sprint at 1.20.

Marco Botti’s charge has run consistently well all season and arguably put up a career best effort last time out over course and distance when beaten by a neck by Eastern Impact on October 3.

It is fair to say that the winner that day had the run of the race and on top of that the selection could have been held up that bit longer by Martin Harley who came to win his race but couldn’t go past in the final 25 yards.

Only nine went to post that day but with a double figure field set to line up here and with Christophe Soumillon taking over, I expect the French maestro to deliver him very late and at the least provide with a place win at around the 50/1 marker.

Of course this is a better race with the likes of Twilight Son and Muhaarar in opposition but neither is watertight.

The former steps up radically in class here and the latter has always shown his very best form on quick ground which he will definitely not get here.

The big race has the right favourite in Jack Hobbs but Found is the value bet after her unlucky in running outing in the Arc and although the 9/2 available now is as low as I want to go I think she could have that bit more pace over this trip than the Irish Derby winner and claim the big bucks at 3.05.

As far as the rest of the card is concerned, Ebor winner Litigant looks sure to go well in a below par running of the Long Distance Cup at 12.45, while Solow should bang in another group one event in the QEII Stakes due off at 2.30.

The ground at Catterick will definitely be a lot softer where I shall be having two wagers.

Confessional and Ballesteros were second and third respectively in the 3.25 last year, but the selection is much better off at the weights and could be able to reserve the form despite an outside draw.

A bigger danger could well be Arctic Feeling who finished fourth in this last year despite not getting the best of runs through the race.

The other wager has to be True Pleasure at 5.10 and he is taken to reverse previous course and distance form with Best Trip.
