MORE than a thousand Unison delegates will descend tonight on Glasgow City Council, where workers are engaged in one of Britain’s longest-running strikes.

Homelessness caseworkers in Glasgow, where public-sector union Unison is holding its annual conference this week, have been on strike for 12 weeks in a dispute over regrading, but the dispute dates back to 2013.

The workers help homeless people get off the streets and assist residents in dealing with tenancy issues.

“We know this is having a massive impact on people who rely on our service but we have been left with no option,” said striker Stuart Graham.

A spokesman for the Labour-run council said that workers had all been offered the grade they were asking for so long as they “demonstrated their competence.”

But a Unison official dismissed this as “spin,” saying staff were “being offered an interview to keep their own jobs.”
