A FIGHTING students’ union being shut down by scared bosses staged a final gig last night — and donated all the cash raised to a Gaza medical appeal.
The University of London Union went out in style at a sell-out concert themed “The Union Forever.”
Students are to be evicted from the venue that has previously staged massive acts like Arcade Fire, Deftones and Foo Fighters.
“After over fifty years under student control, the University of London Union building will be unceremoniously prised from student hands by the university,” a promotional page for the event explained.
But determined to stay true to its roots, cash raised through £5 tickets and bar sales were donated to Medical Aid for Palestine.
Students voted by 3,915 to 537 in favour of ULU continuing to be run democratically by elected students in a referendum staged in February.
But University of London bosses are pressing ahead with plans to replace it with a staff-run resource centre.
