Bundesliga games will go ahead as planned

THIS weekend’s games in the German Bundesliga will go ahead, after Tuesday night’s game between Germany and the Netherlands in Hannover was called off due to a security threat.

Police ordered an evacuation just hours before kick-off after rumours of a suspicious package was found inside the stadium as well as an explosive truck disguised as an ambulance parked nearby. Explosives were not found and no arrests were made but the specific threat left them no choice but to cancel the game as a safety measure.

The threats came four days after the horrific attack in Paris and while league officials say Tuesday night’s events could affect the league, they have decided to go ahead with the scheduled matches.

“The matches will take place,” said Reinhard Rauball, one of two acting presidents of the German football federation (DFB) and president of Borussia Dortmund.

“My impression is that football in Germany has taken a different turn in every facet as of today.”
