Guinea to host 2015 African Cup of Nations
Football: Equatorial Guinea were named the hosts of next year’s African Nations Cup.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the small west African country will host the tournament.
Previous hosts Morocco had asked for the tournament to be postponed due to concerns over the Ebola crisis but CAF’s executive committee decided to move the tournament instead and banned Morocco from taking part.
Wasps take over Ricoh Arena
Rugby Union: Wasps completed their takeover of the Ricoh Arena yesterday, the club announced.
The Premiership side purchased the remaining 50 per cent stake from the Alan Edward Higgs Charity, which owned half of the Ricoh Arena operating firm Arena Coventry Limited.
The club’s first match at their new Coventry home will be their Premiership Rugby clash against London Irish on 21 December.
Vanishing Spray to be used in 2015
Football: The Football League announced yesterday it will use “Vanishing Spray” in all of its competitions from January 1.
The product, which was debuted in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has been used in the Premier League and Champions League this season, but only on a trial basis by the Football League.
However after successful feedback, the governing body has decided to implement it from the start of 2015.
Compton leaves Somerset
Cricket: England batsman Nick Compton left Somerset by mutual consent yesterday.
The South Africa-born 31-year-old, who signed a three-year contract in 2013, has insisted his desire to relocate to south-west London is behind his decision.
He explained: “I have loved playing for Somerset but I have decided to relocate more permanently to my base in south-west London.”
Compton joined Somerset for the 2010 season.
