The prologue to this homegrown prison drama promises much only to be let down as it runs through the cliches like a television soap opera.

Jack O'Connell plays a vicious sociopath "starred up" from a young offenders centre to real prison, only to discover his estranged dad (Ben Mendelsohn) is running his wing.

What follows is a bloody bonding exercise with added violence as we work through the stereotypes representing a society split into warring classes.

With a woman governor and a sadistic screw being balanced by a concerned social worker, there's the usual plot development featuring the prison overlord and rival gangs.

Disappointing.
