A REMARKABLE exhibition of cartoons poking fun at former prime minister Margaret Thatcher by renowned satirical illustrator Gerald Scarfe has opened in Teesdale, County Durham.

The previously unexhibited Milk Snatcher, Gerald Scarfe — The Thatcher Drawings spans 22 years, from Thatcher’s days in the 1970s Tory shadow cabinet through to her leadership of the Conservative Party, her tenure as PM and ultimately, her political decline.

It is being shown at the Bowes Museum in County Durham until May 31 after opening on March 14.
