ARGENTINIAN Pedro Canale — aka Chancha Via Circuito — came out of the digital cumbia of the Buenos Aires proletarian scene. He’s since moved on, as this album eloquently shows.

Amansara  (“Will Appease”) requires close attention, with the engrossing soundscapes Canale assembles as soothing as they are intriguing. Rich tonal textures generously reward the attentive listener.

Meditative in intention, Amansara effectively decelerates the world around us from the welcoming bass-driven Hola (“Hello”) to the soothing farewell of De Tu Mano (“From Your Hand”).

But this is no musical paracetamol.

Camino De Posguerra, (“Post-war Road “) spells out a fierce and eloquent denunciation of ruling elites, delivered with impressive staccato angst by Sara Hebe.

A magnificent and utterly modern homage to the music traditions of South America.
