LABOUR warned yesterday that house prices could soar to 13 times the average wage under another Tory government.
House prices surged to another all-time average high of £188,949 yesterday, according to Nationwide.
But shadow housing minister Emma Reynolds braced Britain for the self-proclaimed “party of aspiration” to put a home even further out of reach for working people.
She explained that the average home will cost £359,000 by 2020 based on current trends, which would require a £72,000 deposit.
And in a Nottingham speech, she said: “The Tories pay lip service to aspiration and home ownership but they’re not willing to take the action necessary to deliver the homes we need to meet these aspirations.
“The only way to ensure more people can buy their own home is to build many more homes. That is the litmus test of aspiration today.”
