Pyongyang praises but denies Sony cyber-attack

North Korea insists it didn't take revenge on technology giant

NORTH Korea denied responsibility for a cyber-attack on technology giant Sony today — but praised those who carried it out.

A hacking attack last week disrupted US-based Sony Pictures’s computer system and leaked confidential information onto the internet.

Sony and the US pointed the finger at Pyongyang, which is unhappy at a film the firm is producing depicting an assassination attempt on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“We know that Sony Pictures was going to produce a film abetting a terrorist attack while hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership,” a spokesman for the National Defence Commission said.

Describing the hack as a “righteous deed,” he warned Sony that “the righteous reaction will get stronger to smash the evil doings.”
