Rail staff and public ‘suffer in the heat’

PASSENGERS on Britain’s overcrowded trains are suffering even more than usual, due to some of Britain’s hottest weather on record.

And rail union RMT said yesterday that train crews were suffering in the same “appalling” conditions.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “It is only right that some serious leeway is given to workers, in terms of staggering travelling times in the heatwave conditions and, once again, this situation reinforces the importance of having train and platform staff on hand and trained to deal with any eventuality.”
