Goals from Ross McCormack, Shaun Hutchinson, Lasse Vigen Christensen and substitute Cauley Woodrow saw Fulham leapfrog Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship on Saturday.
Under Kit Symons Fulham have now taken 27 points in 14 games as they start to look like an outside bet to make the play-offs.
The result flattered the Cottagers, who had to wait until the 34th minute to open the scoring, when £11 million man McCormack fired a fabulous free-kick into the top corner from 30 yards.
In an open game, the goal came after the visitors enjoyed their best period of possession with Stevie May going closest to scoring.
The failure to take chances has been Wednesday’s Achilles heel all season. They have netted just 16 times, the lowest goals tally in the Championship.
Manager Stuart Gray lamented: “We are not ruthless enough. The worrying thing is that we are not putting the ball in the net and giving our defence a breather.
“We have to have more desire to score, if you don’t convert the chances it will come back to bite you. But I can’t keep saying that every week.”
Just before half-time came the killer blow, when Fulham defender Hutchinson rose highest to head the ball home from a Bryan Ruiz free-kick.
The second half began with Wednesday again controlling possession but with Fulham looking dangerous on the break and it was from a counter attack that Christensen started and ended a sweeping move with a fine finish on 67 minutes.
The last-minute penalty was the icing on the cake and insured that Fulham tucked into their turkeys above Wednesday in 13th place.
Despite the incredible turnaround under his tenure, manager Symons refuses to stop looking over his shoulder.
“There are some good teams on good runs behind us,” he said. “We shouldn’t be blasé. But we are on such a good run that we are also looking up, there has to be a balance.”
