PLAID Cymru leader Leanne Wood will set out her party’s alternative to the “four shades of Westminster grey” and failed austerity today.
She will use her keynote speech at the party’s conference to slam the Tory, Labour and Lib Dem leaders for “dancing to the tune” set by Ukip leader Nigel Farage.
And she will say only Plaid Cymru offer voters a “real alternative” to the “false choice” between the four male-led parties at May’s general election.
“Is it any wonder that there are so many people now for whom not voting is seen as their best expression of democratic preference and participation?” she will tell members.
“I think that’s because there’s a false choice presented to people. The options are four subtly different shades of Westminster grey.”
Ms Wood told the Star yesterday that official figures released this week showing Britain’s deficit rising proves that the “austerity experiment has failed.”
Setting out her party’s alternative, she said: “Plaid Cymru’s plan to rebalance power and wealth amounts to a permanent restructing of democracy and economy to outlive and outlast economic cycles.”
That would require that powers over tax and borrowing along with natural resources be transferred to Cardiff from Westminster, she said.
Ms Wood will also insist today that in the meantime Wales must receive the same funding per head as Scotland.
“We can only imagine the kind of difference we could make across our public services if Wales were funded at the same level,” she said.
