Wilson bags hat trick as Bilic is left confused

West Ham 3 Bournemouth 4 by Paul Donovan at the Boleyn Ground

THE fact that the West Ham goalkeeper received the match sponsors man of the match award perhaps best summed up this game.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic confirmed the view when he declared that his side were only two down by half time due to the heroics of Darren Randolph.

Ironically, there had been concerns about the keeper coming in to replace the suspended Adrian prior to the game due to some rocky performances in the European qualifying games but it will be the other 10 places that concern Bilic moving forward.

Bilic admitted post-match that the club were looking to bring in players before the transfer window shuts at the end of August. He must though be wondering about some of the summer signings.

After 35 minutes he hauled off £8 million Angelo Obanna, replacing him with James Tomkins. Bilic explained that he had to make changes. “There were three or four players in the first half whose performance I was not happy with on the pitch,” he said.

The game was just 10 minutes old when Aaron Cresswell was dispossessed by right back Simon Francis, who crossed to the near post for Callum Wilson to crash home.

On the 27th minute, Cresswell was at fault again as the ball bounced around the penalty area. His loose back-pass found Wilson who was again waiting to finish.

The home side came out after half time at full throttle with Mark Noble securing a penalty after he was brought down in the area. He duly converted the kick.

Five minutes later and West Ham were level, Sakho turning to fire in a shot which rebounded for Cheikhou Kouyate to finish.

Bournemouth were not to be denied, with their incisive football constantly stretching West Ham.

It was the 65th minute when a sweeping move ended up with substitute Marc Pugh cutting in off the left, leaving Jenkinson sliding into the abyss, and his curling effort beat Randolph.

The Cherries wrapped it up on the 78th minute when Max Gradel beat Jenkinson for pace cutting across him in the area only to see the full back stick out a boot. Wilson completed his hat trick with the penalty. Jenkinson was sent off.

Madibo Maiga’s consolation goal came three minutes later with a nice dribble and finish from the edge of the area.
