CND Conference: Wolfgang optimistic for peace

LEGENDARY activist Walter Wolfgang said yesterday that the peace campaign is “on the march” after the election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, writes Luke James.

Mr Wolfgang was famously dragged out of Labour’s 2005 conference for heckling a speech by then foreign secretary Jack Straw over the Iraq war.

Now the 92-year-old has told CND conference of his optimism that they were now on a “historic march towards civilisation.”

The German-born activist, who fled to Britain from the nazis, admitted CND may not be able to get rid of Trident immediately.

But he added: “We are much further forward than we were. We now have a leader of the Labour Party who wants to scrap it.”
