Sour grapes Dugher lashes out at Star

MICHAEL DUGHER lashed out at the Morning Star this weekend as he aired sour grapes at being dumped from the shadow cabinet.

The Barnsley East MP gave the keynote address at the annual conference of the right-wing Labour First faction.

He criticised the involvement of former London mayor Ken Livingstone in the party’s defence review and claimed that abandoning Trident would lead to “electoral disaster.”

“I’m sure Ken Livingstone likes to think that he’s got a chest full of campaign medals,” he said.

“But we’ve gone from having our defence reviews led by people with four stars — to now where they’re being run by people with the Morning Star.”

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell responded yesterday, saying Mr Dugher was sacked because he was “not working co-operatively” within the shadow cabinet.

But he said Labour remained a “broad church” and said the party had “moved on” from the reshuffle.
