Britain sends more aid to Iraq

THE British government has sent more aid for humanitarian workers to northern Iraq, it confirmed yesterday.

The flights, which took off from Dubai, will deliver the supplies to people across the country’s Dahuk region who have been displaced after attacks from Islamic State extremists.

An estimated half a million people, almost half of the population, have been forced to flee their homes in the Dahuk region.

International Development Secretary Justine Greening said Britain could be proud of its “swift” action to help those caught up in the crisis.

“These latest UK aid flights into Erbil will provide enough food to support 12,100 children for a month,” she said.
