A SHOCKING one in three Londoners say they would be “uncomfortable” with a Muslim mayor, an LBC radio poll found yesterday.
YouGov chief Peter Kellner said responses laid bare a “very clear age gap” in attitudes towards religious and ethnic minorities.
Almost half (49 per cent) of over 65s said they would be uncomfortable, compared with 15 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds.
Two potential mayoral candidates are Muslims — Labour’s Sadiq Khan and Tory Sayeed Kamall.
Mr Khan’s campaign was boosted yesterday by endorsements from GMB’s London and southern union regions.
But the LBC poll showed him behind Blairite former Olympics minister Tessa Jowell as Londoners’ preferred candidate, although many will not be able to vote.
MP Zac Goldsmith looks set to run away with the Tory nominations — and a fifth of Labour supporters said they would be prepared to vote for him.
