BANGLADESHI police have named a Dhaka Islamist group prime suspect in attacks on two publishing houses that left one man dead and another critically wounded.
The two publishers in the capital were apparently targeted for being linked to a blogger murdered earlier this year in an attack claimed by banned group Ansarullah Bangla Team.
Senior police detective Munirul Islam confirmed that Ansarullah Bangla Team was the main focus of his investigation.
The first attack on Saturday left publisher Ahmed Rahim Tutul in a critical condition, while two writers suffered less serious wounds.
Publisher Faisal Arefin Deepan was hacked to death in his office in the second assault.
Mr Deepan’s Jagriti publishing house and Mr Tutul’s Shudhdhoswar had both published works by US-Bangladeshi blogger and writer Avijit Roy.
Mr Roy was hacked to death in February as he walked at Dhaka University.
