Venezuelan communists targeted in arson attack

AN ARSON attack on a Communist Party of Venezuela office in Caracas early today while activists were inside has been condemned by the party.

Incendiary devices were set off outside and inside the building at 2.30am, endangering the lives of leaders and activists of the Communist Youth of Venezuela (JCV), which uses the office as its national headquarters.

JCV activists acted to contain the fire and defend the building from further attacks before the arrival of firefighters and police.

The Communist Party political bureau urged a prompt investigation by authorities to identify and punish the perpetrators.

In a statement, the party said that the attack was part of a plan by “reactionary sectors of the right to intimidate, demoralise and beat the forces of the revolutionary popular movement” in Venezuela.
