Summer of Heroes: Wakening conscience

THE TUC’s disabled workers conference is a triumph. Day one was packed, the debates sharp and list of actions long.

So where is the mainstream media? Nowhere.

That’s not for want of trying by the TUC, whose staff work overtime to win coverage for an issue central to a decent society.

The Morning Star had a reporter inside covering the debates and its campaigns organiser outside handing out papers. We cannot do that without your support.

Disabled people are in the harsh front line of austerity. They are dying because of cruel work fitness tests. Every newspaper should be covering this scandal.

The Morning Star doesn’t just report disability rights, it campaigns for them. It fights coalition policies of division and prejudice.

It is the wakening conscience of a people browbeaten with lies about the “work shy.”

Give to the Summer of Heroes campaign. Back the only newspaper which cares. It cannot be allowed to wither and die.

Summer of Heroes Roll of Honour: £60 from south-west London, £100 from Burnley, £50 from Tyneside, £300 from West Yorkshire, £19 from Colchester, £7 from Sheffield, with £375 in standing orders and £23 online donations.
