Isis forces kill 15 on Iraq-Syria border

Islamic State (Isis) forces attacked an Iraqi military checkpoint along the border with Syria yesterday, killing at least 15 border guards.

The attack, which took place in the town of al-Walid, also wounded at least five officers, said a senior army official.

Since its blitz earlier this year, Isis has controlled most of the border crossings between Iraq and Syria.

It has also overrun a large part of Iraq’s Anbar and Nineveh provinces and now controls about one-third of both Iraq and Syria.

The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq reported yesterday that 1,232 Iraqis were killed and 2,434 wounded in violence and terror attacks in November.

Of those killed, at least 296 were members of Iraqi and Kurdish forces, as well as militias who fight alongside them.
