Palestinian journalists killed by shelling

THE International Federation of Journalists called for support today after two Palestinian journalists were killed while reporting in Gaza.

According to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, al-Aqsa TV journalist Sameh al-Aryan and photojournalist Rami Rayan, who worked for the Palestinian Media Network, were killed in the Israeli artillery shelling of Shojayah market on Wednesday evening.

A third journalist was wounded.

“We express our anger and condemnation at the killing of these journalists, the latest victims in this ongoing cycle of intimidation, violence and murder against media workers in Palestine,” said IFJ president Jim Boumelha.

“Enough is enough. The killing must end now and Israeli must be held accountable for these atrocities.”

Eight journalists have now lost their lives since the Israeli bombardment of Gaza began nearly a month ago.

The IFJ is writing to United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki Moon to remind the organisation of its international obligation to protect journalists.
