Ta’ai handed new contract

RUGBY LEAGUE: Super League semi-finalists Huddersfield received a boost yesterday with blockbusting forward Ukuma Ta’ai agreeing a new contract for 2016.

The 27-year-old Tongan international, who has scored 23 tries in 78 appearances since joining the Giants from New Zealand Warriors three years ago, has produced his best form to help them move to within 80 minutes of a maiden Grand Final by clinching a top-four finish.

McMillan handed two year ban

FOOTBALL: Former Partick Thistle defender Jordan McMillan has been suspended for two years following a failed drug test, UK Anti-Doping announced yesterday.

McMillan tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, following Thistle’s game against Celtic on December 3 last year.

The 26-year-old was soon suspended by the club and sacked following an internal investigation.

Official seriously injured in match

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: An NFL official remained in hospital yesterday with nine broken ribs and a collapsed lung after taking a hard shot in a match between the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos on Saturday.

Gary Arthur was believed to have originally suffered a fractured collarbone but scans have showed the injury is worse than initially feared.
