After nearly 15 years the original cast of The Best Man are back to reprise their career-launching roles in this overly sentimental sequel aimed at the festive season.

While Malcolm D Lee's directorial debut feature was a groundbreaking film this one is anything but.

It's schmaltzy, emotionally manipulative and wholly predictable as the group of long-time friends reunite at Christmas for the first time in over a decade. Past grievances and passions resurface as they also discover one of them is dying from cancer and it happens to be the mother of four.

Lee throws in everything including the proverbial kitchen sink to get those tear ducts flowing.

It is only the fine performances and the palpable chemistry between Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Harold Perrineau, Melissa De Sousa and Monica Calhoun that makes this at all bearable.

But both the engaging cast and the film's target audience deserve better.
