Popular ‘Sack Ester McVey’ T-shirts sell out at campaign launch on Merseyside

MERSEYSIDE trade unionists campaigning to oust the district’s only Tory MP launched a T-shirt in support of the campaign and immediately sold out.

Esther McVey is MP for Wirral West and is Employment Minister overseeing implementation of vicious sanctions against people forced to survive on benefits.

Trade unionists and political campaigners are determined to see her defeated at the general election in May.

They produced a “Sack Esther McVey” T-shirt, one of which was presented to left-Labour MP John McDonnell at the launch of the campaign.

The 40 T-shirts sold out quickly at the event on Friday night, and another 100 have been ordered.

The campaign is being spearheaded by Wirral Trades Union Council.

It is being backed by the public-service union PCS, Unite, train drivers’ union Aslef, Merseyside Trades Union Council and several community campaign organisations, including Disabled People Against Cuts.

A “Scrooge of the Year” event is planned for December.
